How to get grants for stairlifts in Ireland?

BM-Stairlifts-Grants

Did you know The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is a grant you can get if you have a physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual disability. It provides funding so you can improve how you enter and move around your home. You could be eligible for stairlift grants of up to 100% of the cost of the install and the grant funding can also be used for bathroom adaptations, ramps and railings. It can be confusing about where to even start, which is where we come in providing advice and grant assistance.

Am I eligible?

The Housing Adaptation Grant is available to people with a gross household income of up to €75,000 a year. Your local authority will assess your total household to find out if you qualify for the grant and the level of funding you will get. You will need to own the property and the home needs to be your main residence. You or someone in the household has a disability or mobility issue requiring the adaptation. The application form is available for download here.

1. Obtain a Medical Report

To support your grant application you will need to obtain a medical report from your GP or an occupational therapist. This is a key part of the application as the report provides professional confirmation that the stairlift is medically necessary. Your local county council will rely on this report to outline the urgency and prioritise funding for those with genuine medical needs.

2. Arrange a Free Stairlift Home Survey with BM Stairlifts

Contact BM Stairlifts to book a no obligation free home survey. A member of our team will be in touch to arrange a home survey at a time that suits you. A specialist will visit your home to assess your needs, recommend the most suitable stairlift and provide a quote. You’ll now have the necessary details for your stairlift grant application.

3. Identify Local County Council for Stairlift Grant Application

Each county council has their own individual requirements for grant applications, so it’s important to check their specific requirements directly with them. Please find the relevant contact details for your county council here.

4. Prepare Application Documents

You will need to prepare all your documents requested by your specific county council. Usually this will consist of the application form, your stairlift quote, the GP or Occupational Therapists report and proof of income. If you need assistance with any of the steps outlined here, please feel free to contact BM Stairlifts on 01 802 0405.

5. Submit Your Application

Submit your grant application to your local county council. Submitting a full and correct application helps avoid delays and ensures it can be processed efficiently. You’re application will then move to the assessment stage.

6. Assessment and Approval

Once your completed application is submitted, it enters the assessment phase, which can take between 4 to 12 weeks. During this time, a council officer may arrange a visit to your home to inspect the proposed area for the stairlift or other adaptations. Your medical documentation and financial information will be carefully reviewed to ensure eligibility. Applications are prioritised based on urgency and medical necessity.
